Hi,
I have an idea to put to the group, regarding our presentation. I thought the week 7, lecture on 'Idleness' was really interesting and I feel that this would be a good idea for our presentation topic. The 'Idleness' lecture touched on ideas about people needing to share the work load in our society and if people did this then there would be less unemployment. At present the UK, is one of the most hard working countries in Europe, regarding the amount of time the nation actually spends at work on a weekly basis. However, it has recently come to our attentions, mainly via the media, about dangers of the credit crunch and this therefore, making people redundant. I propose that we do our presentation as a news bulletin e.g. telling the audience what is happening regarding the credit crunch at that specific moment in time but also incorporating the issues raised by the philosopher Bertrand Russell and any other philosopher's views we can find....

I´m completly agree with Idleness as the topic of our blog and presentation. Anyway, I already think that each member should propose two or three topics, and then chose the most voted issue. I will suggest my three topics after reading the handouts about "Asymetrical reciprocity" because that title realy atracts me.
Although I agree with the topic proposed by Lucy, maybe we should work a little bit more in the presentation format.

Yeh i really enjoyed exploring this topic in the lecture, if we did do this topic I think we could maybe in corporate a bit of role play within the presentation..... I know we are not in acting school but could be fun and not so ordinary, maybe tackling the topic on those people who choose to be on state benefit for, no other reason tahn shere laziness. With the contrasted life of a busy stock broker in a city and how, living both extremes is not a good idea. So to be too lazy in my belief can be seen on the same par as being too busy, they are both as bad as each other.
Just my suggestion for this topic in particular as i thought there was no point in starting another topic on idleness
While browsing found quite a good little piece of literature on a blog to do with this topic, its not academic but thought the author makes a very valid point.... Check it out.....
